Social and Emotional Learning

What is SEL?

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.

Why SEL?

Research has shown that a focus on SEL development has a number of positive outcomes for individuals. Students actively participating in SEL programs have shown an increase in academic performance as well as improved behavior. SEL competence leads to long-term success in reducing poverty, improved economic mobility, and overall achievement.
